Lesson 8

Functions & Scope

Functions let you package reusable behavior into clear, named units. In this lesson you'll practice parameters, return values, function expressions, arrow functions, and how scope controls where variables can be accessed.

1. Create reusable functions

Start with one responsibility per function. Give it a descriptive name, pass in the values it needs, and return the result instead of depending on unrelated global state.

functioncalculateTotal(price, quantity) {
return price * quantity;
}

const total = calculateTotal(19, 3);

2. Understand scope

A variable declared inside a function belongs to that function's local scope. Keeping data local when possible makes code easier to reason about and reduces accidental side effects.
